Pengertian ISP Dan Fungsinya Serta Jenis Layanan ISP – ISP merupakan singkatan dari Internet Service Provider. ISP merupakan sebuah wadah atau organisasi yang menyediakan layanan jasa dalam mengakses internet baik untuk pribadi, perkantoran, sekolah-sekolah maupun untuk umum. Internet saat ini sudah tidak familiar lagi dikalangan masyarakat. Hampir semua orang menggunakan layanan ini untuk mengakses segala keperluan dan kebutuhan. Agar kita bisa mengakses internet, dibutuhkan jasa layanan ini, dengan cara berlangganan kepada layanan penyedia jasa ISP ini. Kita hanya membayar dengan pulsa lokal, dan ISP lah yang akan mengurus secara detail juga biaya-biaya koneksi internet. Dalam pembahasan ini, akan  kita bahas tentang fungsi ISP dan jenis layanan ISP.

Fungsi Isp

Adapun fungsinya ialah sebagai berikut:

1. Sebagai sarana atau alat yang dapat memberikan kemudahan bagi user dalam mengakses internet
2. ISP dapat dihubungkan dari pelanggan atau user melalui gateway terdekat
3. Menyediakan layanan yang berupa jaringan internet sehingga dapat tersambung dan dapat membuka atau mengakses internet
4. ISP sebagai salah satu perantara dalam menyambungkan internet
5. Menyediakan perangkat modem yang yang dapat melakukan sambungan dial-up
6. Dapat menghubungkan pengguna pada layanan www (World Wide Web)
7. Memberikan tempat homepage.

Jenis Layanan ISP

Jenis layanan ISP diantaranya:

Dial-Up Connection. Yakni melalui modem atau kabel telpon yang pada umumnya digunakan untuk akses internet di rumah. Dial-Up merupakan koneksi yang bersifat sementara. Adapun penggunaan akses dial-up ini seperti: personal diap-up; corporate dial-up; night server acces; LAN dial-up ISDN.

Dedicated Connection. Yakni jenis koneksi yang menetap 24 jam dan biasanya banyak digunakan di perusahaan-perusahaan atau tempat-tempat yang banyak menggunakan kebutuhan koneksi internet dan digunakan oleh banyak komputer.

Hotspot. Yakni merupakan jenis layanan internet tanpa menggunakan kabel seperti dial-up. Hotspot biasanya digunakan di tempat-tempat tertentu seperti cafe, kantin, bandara, tempat-tempat nongkrong, dan tempat-tempat lainnya.

Wireless. Wireless juga merupakan jenis layanan internet tanpa kabel. Layanan akses internet ini tidak dipungut biaya telepon, tapi hanya dikenakan tarif atau biaya pemakaian internetnya saja.

Mobile Access. Sebuah layanan untuk mengakses internet yang dapat dilakukan dengan mudah kapan saja dan dimana saja melalui Handphone atau telepon seluler. Layanan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi pengguna telepon seluler yang mendukung kecanggihan teknologi ini, baik GSM maupun CDMA.
